Verve, 1962
This 1962 collaboration by co-leaders tenor saxophonist Stan Getz and guitarist Charlie Byrd, was the first bossa nova album recorded by American jazz musicians and – together with Getz’s follow-up collaboration with João Gilberto, kick started the bossa nova craze. It contains some bona-fide classics of the genre including the evergreen “Samba de Uma Nota Só” (“One Note Samba”) and Antonio Carlos Jobim’s “Desafinado,” and the whole album glows with a warm beauty and graceful sophistication.Tracklist & CreditsTracklistSide A
